Welcome to FanAngel Connect! This guide will walk you through the process of joining a team as an athlete or parent, and then show coaches how to manage members and leverage the powerful group messaging features to communicate effectively.
Part 1: For Athletes & Parents - Joining Your Team
Follow these steps to create your account and join your team using the mobile app.

- Select your Graduation Year, Height, and Weight.
- Choose your Position(s) from the list provided.
- Select your team Level (e.g., Men's JV).
- Tap Save. You are now a member of the team!
Part 2: For Coaches - Managing Team Members and Positions
Once athletes join, you can manage their roles and positions from the web dashboard. These positions act as "tags" that are essential for creating targeted communication groups.
1. View Your Roster
- From your team's page on the web, click the "Members" tab.
- You will see a list of all members who have successfully joined, including coaches, participants, and volunteers.
2. Assign or Edit Positions (Tags)
- Find the participant in the list. Their current positions will be listed.
- To add or change a position, click on the member's row to select them, then click the "Apply positions" button that appears in the action bar.
- In the pop-up window, check the boxes for all applicable positions (e.g., Point Guard, Center).
- Click "Apply Positions". The member is now tagged with these positions.
Part 3: For Coaches - Communicating with Your Team
FanAngel Connect's messaging system is designed for flexible and organized team communication. All messages are tracked and auditable within the system if Guardian is enabled (paid feature).
1. Understanding Your Message Groups
Navigate to the "Messages" tab. On the left, you will see several types of pre-built and custom group chats.
- Group chat - by Role: These are default groups for everyone with a specific role.
- Coaches: A private chat for only the coaching staff.
- Everyone: A chat that includes all team members (coaches, participants, volunteers).
- Participants: A chat for only the athletes and coaches.
- Group chat - by Tag (Dynamic Groups): These powerful groups are automatically created based on the position tags you assign to members. If you tag a new player as a "Center," they are automatically added to the "Center" chat group.
- Example: You can create a chat just for "Centers" or "Point Guards" to send position-specific instructions.
- Group chat - Custom (Static Groups): You can manually select a specific group of members to create a one-off group chat. This group is static and will not update automatically if a member's role or position changes.
- Direct messages: For sending a private, one-to-one message to any team member.
2. Sending a Message to an Existing Group
- Select the group you wish to message from the list on the left (e.g., Participants).
- Type your message in the text box at the bottom.
- Click the send button.
- Members will receive a push notification on their phone and see the message in their app.
3. Creating a New Chat Group by Tag
- Under the "Group chat - by Tag" section, click "New chat by tag".
- A window will appear showing all available position tags and the number of members in each.
- Select the tag you want to create a chat for (e.g., "Center").
- Click "Start chat".
- A new, dedicated chat group is now created for all members with that tag.
This system allows you to streamline communication, ensuring the right message gets to the right people without cluttering everyone's inbox.
