Tutorial: How to Use AI to Generate Sports News & Game Recaps
In today's digital world, the responsibility of covering high school sports often falls on the coaches and teams themselves. FanAngel Connect makes this easy with a powerful AI tool that can write detailed game recaps and news stories for you, saving you valuable time and helping you engage with your fans and community.
This tutorial will guide you through the process of generating, editing, and publishing AI-created content.
Part 1: Generating a News Story
There are two primary ways to initiate an AI-generated story: creating a post from scratch with a prompt, or automatically generating one by uploading a game stats file.
Method A: Creating a Story Manually with an AI Prompt
This method is useful when you don't have a stats file but want the AI to help you write a story based on key details.
- From your team dashboard, navigate to the News tab.(Screenshot 1: The main dashboard with the 'News' tab highlighted.)
- Click the blue plus (+) icon in the bottom right corner to start a new story.(Screenshot 2: The News page with the blue plus icon.)
- On the 'Create Story' page, click the Generate story with AI button.(Screenshot 3: The 'Generate story with AI' button on the story creation page.)
- A "Generate story with AI" window will appear. Here you can:
- Custom prompt: Write a few sentences describing the event or the key highlights you want the AI to focus on.
- Select Subteam: Choose the relevant team (e.g., Men/Boys Varsity).
- Select Event: Choose a specific game from your schedule.
- Attach PDF / XLSX: For the best results, attach a file containing game stats. The more data the AI has, the more detailed the story will be.(Screenshot 4: The 'Generate story with AI' pop-up window.)
- Click Generate to create your draft.
Method B: Automatically Generating a Recap from a Stats File (Football)
This is the fastest and most powerful method, ideal for creating detailed post-game summaries by using data from services like Hudl.
- Navigate to the Schedule tab from the main menu.
- Locate the completed game for which you want to generate a recap.
- Click the upload icon (a cloud with an up arrow) next to the game entry.(Screenshot 5: The team schedule with the upload icon next to a game.)
- Select and upload your exported play-by-play or stats file from your computer.(Screenshot 6: The system's file selection window.)
- The system will take a few moments to process the data and write the article. Once it's ready, a notification will appear.
- Click the bell icon in the top-right corner of the page to view your notifications.
- Click on the "New Story Draft Ready" notification. This will take you directly to the editing page for your new article.(Screenshot 7: The notification panel showing the 'New Story Draft Ready' message.)
Method C: Automatically Generating a Recap from an Integration
- Some integrations are running in the background. Depending on that integration, you may get a notification sent to you that a Recap is ready
- Click on that notification ("New Story Draft Ready"). This will take you directly to the editing page for your new article
Part 2: Editing and Publishing Your Story
The AI has done the heavy lifting, but you always have the final say. Now you can review, add visuals, and publish your story.
- You will land on the 'Edit Story' page. The AI has already populated the Title and the main Excerpt/Post content with a full recap, including sections for key player stats, a scoring summary, and important moments.
- Review the article. You can edit any part of the text just like you would in a normal word processor.
- Click the Add Image/Video button to upload a photo or video to be the featured image for the story.
- Under the "Post to:" section, select where you want your story to appear by checking the boxes:
- FanAngel: Publishes to your main team news feed and to a FanAngel powered athletic site (when applicable)
- Subteams: (e.g., Men/Boys Varsity, Men/Boys JV)
- Social Media: Publishes to your connected Facebook and Instagram accounts.(Screenshot 9: The 'Post to' options with checkboxes for FanAngel, Facebook, and team levels.)
- Make sure the Published checkbox is ticked.
- When you are satisfied, scroll down and click the Publish Story button.
Your story is now live! It will appear in the FanAngel Connect App, your public FanAngel athletics site (when applicable) and any social media channels you selected, providing your community with a professional and detailed recap of the game.
